| | Growing Up - Colossians 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding… Colossians 1:9 Years ago when my two sons were a bit younger, us guys went through a "motocross phase." We all got bikes, geared up with our protective gear, and every Saturday we would head to motocross track for a day of thrills, and spills. Something I noticed was that even as a 40-something year old man, the excitement I felt hitting the track was the same as I felt when I was a teenager; It was almost as if I never grew up! I think some days my wife felt like she had three teenage boys! Well it's one thing to have a day of fun, but the truth is that some Christian never grow up. They get saved, go to church, but that's about it. Paul had a different idea in mind as he wrote to the church in Colossi, he wanted the Christians there to: "...walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy" (vs 10-11) It was his consistent prayer for them, and it should be our consistent prayer, as well as our mission, as followers of Christ. See, Paul is praying that the Colossians would be filled with the knowledge of God, so it must something they could know and possess. The glory of the gospel is that he has made us into something different than what we once were. Before we knew Christ, we walked in the knowledge of the world, the wisdom of man, but as Christians, we now have the spirit of wisdom... …that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Ephesians 1:7 God has graciously given us His Spirit, so let us be filled with, and walk in the wisdom of knowledge of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, each and every day. "Lord, help me to walk in Your power, Your wisdom, and Your knowledge today." Pastor Clay | | | | | | |
