| | Traditions of Faith - Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 The word "tradition" derives from the Latin tradere, meaning to transmit, to hand over, to give for safekeeping. Traditions are a way of passing down the the things in life that are important to future generations. Most families have traditions that they practice, and they're important for several reasons; First, they serve as identity markers that distinguish us as a unique group. Next, they provide a way to remember things from the past that are relevant to our lives today, and lastly they help welcome new members through a shared experience. Did you know that they family of God is no different? Our Christian experience isn't meant to be lived in isolation; we're meant to share our lives with one another in community, and our traditions help to ground us in those relationships. These traditions of faith include things such as: - Regularly gathering together for corporate worship (Hebrews 10:25)
- Singing and praising God together (Ephesians 5:19-20)
- Teaching the bible (2 Timothy 4:2)
- Taking communion (1 Corinthians 11:23-30)
While these things in and of themselves don't make us Christians, they are patterns that serve an an important part of our Christian walk. They help to strengthen our faith, they strengthen our relationships with one another, they remind us of important aspects of our faith, and they provide an anchor for us into the community of believers. "Lord, help me to stand fast, and hold to the traditions of faith in my life today." Pastor Clay | | | | | | |
