Stinky Thinking - Philippians 4:8-9

Have you ever have a case of "stinky thinking?" Even if you've never heard of it, you've probably had it. Stinky thinking is when we allow our mind to dwell on negative junk. Things like: "How I hate my job; How so-and-so gets on my nerves; How the government is so messed up, etc etc."

Stinky thinking is a lot like a bad case of the flu; You can catch it from others, you can spread it, to others, and once you've succumbed it, it brings you down! Untreated, stinky thinking can become chronic, lasting for years, in some cases a lifetime.

Fortunately, stinky thinking has a treatment that works faster than Theraflu: Philippians 4:8-9

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

Friends, a big part of our attutude is a result of what we allow our mind to dwell on; Dwell on the negative, and our attitude becomes negative. But the opposite is also true; Dwell on the positive, and our attitude will follow. Think about it, what is:

True? Jesus loves you!
Noble? Jesus will always be with you!
Lovely? You are the bride of Christ, beautiful in His eyes!
Good Report? You can do all things through Christ!
Virtue? You're clothed in the Righteousness of Christ!
Praiseworthy? He is worthy to be praised!

So the next time you sense a case of stinky thinking coming on, set your mind on the things of the Lord, and watch the peace of God be with you!

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Prov 23:7

"Lord, today help me to dwell on things that are true, noble, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy."
