| | Physical Oneness - 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 Most people wouldn't think that you'd find advice for your intimate life in the bible, but in fact it's right here in 1 Corinthians 7: Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 Paul is pointing out a very simple, but powerful truth found in God's word regarding marriage: Part of our marital duty to one another is to seek to have a sexually fulfilling relationship. Not only is it our duty, but our objective is not to please ourselves, but rather to please our spouse. See, the world has twisted sex to something that it was never mean to be; Casual, no commitment, self-gratifying, and the objectification of women as sex objects. But God's view of sex is different: It should be holy and set apart for a man and women who have committed to marriage for life. You see, God's plan is for the husband and wife to become one flesh: Spiritually, emotionally, and physically, and the sexual union between a husband and wife consummates that reality. That's why Paul tells us that we should never use sex as a weapon, or a bargaining tool, but that we should be willing to give of ourselves to our spouse; Selflessly, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. "Lord, help me give myself to my spouse selflessly, spiritually, emotionally, and physically." Pastor Clay | | | | | | |
