| | We Need Each Other - 1 Corinthians 12:18-21 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, "I don't need you." The head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you." 1 Corinthians 12:18-21 I've always loved the way Paul uses the human body as a metaphor for the body of Christ, noting that while each part is different, they're all important! And it really is true in the church as well; We're all different, we have different gifts and abilities, yet we're all important to the mission of the church, which is sharing the gospel, and making disciples. See, if one part of our body isn't functioning, we would call that "handicapped," and the same is true of our local church. If God has called you to a church, then He put you there because you have unique gifts and abilities that He wants to be utilized in that church. If you're not plugged in and using those gifts and abilities, then guess what; Your church is handicapped! By the same token, there may be people doing things in the church that you don't feel are particularly important, but remember that every part of your body is important, and so is every member of the church. The fact is we all need each other. We need all of our unique gifts and abilities, working together in the local church, in order to fulfill the mission the God has given us. "Lord, help me to find where I fit in the church, and begin to use the gifts and abilities that you've given me to strengthen the church and help it accomplish it's mission here in our city."
