Stay in the Flow (Part 1) - Jude 1:20-21

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:20-21

This past Sunday we noted: God's love, blessing, and protection are always available, unconditional, and all-encompassing. The question isn't "Do I have full access," the question is "Am I willing to place myself in the position to have full access?"

Some Christians have the idea that God's love is conditional, and if we're not performing up to par, He'll cut us off. That's simply not true, as the bible teaches us:

...neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

The waterfall of God's love, and his blessings and protection, is ALWAYS flowing. Its not possible to turn it off, however it is possible to move ourselves out of the stream.

In Luke 15, Jesus told a parable about a young man from a well-to-do family who decided that he wanted to receive his inheritance ahead of schedule, and "live life to the fullest." While at home, the young man had all of his needs met; safety, security, provision, all provided for him. Of course, you know the story, he went to a far country, blew through all of his money, and ended up homeless and hungry, willing to eat pig slop! As the story goes, the young man finally decided to return to his home, and beg his father to allow him to be a slave in his fathers home. Better than being a slave for a stranger and eating pig slop! But an interesting thing happened when he returned; His father embraced him, restored his position as a son, and held a feast in his honor!

The point I want to make is this: The love, blessings, and protection of the father were always available to the son, but while the son was away, outside of the fathers care, he couldn't experience them. But once he returned to his father, all of those things were once again available to him.

This week our devotions will be looking at how we as Christians can keep ourselves in the position of having access to all that our Heavenly Father has for us.
