The GO Team - Romans 16:13-15

Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine. Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren who are with them. Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. Romans 16:13-15

Reading through the list of names in Romans 16 makes it clear that Paul wasn't working alone in his mission to spread the gospel - He had a TEAM. You could call them the "GO Team" - The Gospel Outreach team!

There were people in every city that Paul visited that had accepted Christ, and joined with Paul to reach others for Christ. They were engaged in the work of the ministry, each one doing their part, and they were all key to the mission that God had given not just to Paul, but to the CHURCH as a whole. And given the fact that 2,000 years later the church is still going strong, I'd say they they were an effective GO team!

A lot has changed since the first century; Advances in travel, communications, and technology have revolutionized our ability to spread the gospel. But in one way its still the same: It still takes a team to reach people for Christ.

That's why I believe its crucial that we have the perspective that we're all part of the GO team here at CCW, partnered with the other churches and saints in Wilmington, and all over the world, carrying on the same mission that Paul and his team started - Reaching people with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

See, the question isn't "Am I on the GO Team?" - the moment you accepted Christ you became part of the team. The church you attend is your Gospel Outreach Team, and together with other churches in your city, and all of the the world, you're carrying out the greatest mission ever assigned: Spreading the gospel until Jesus returns.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17

The questions we should be asking ourselves are:
  • Do I have an awareness of the calling that God has placed in my life?
  • Do I understand how my calling fits into the larger plan that God has for my life, for our church? Our city? The world?
  • Am I walking in the fullness of that calling?
In other words, "Am I going to engage with my GO Team?"

"Lord, help me to identify my place on the team, and to engage in the work of the ministry that you called me to."
