God's Mighty Weapons - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Have you ever attempted to share your faith with someone, but you ran right into what seemed like an impenetrable wall of defence? When this happens, our first reaction is often to use our intellect and reasoning to break through the walls.

The apostle Paul seemed to run into this situation often, and in this passage he reveals his breakthrough strategy; God's mighty weapons!  What were those weapons?  Paul listed them in Ephesians 6: The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

The carnal, human way is to break through is to overpower, dominate, manipulate, and out-maneuver. The spiritual, Jesus way to break through is to humble yourself, die to yourself, and let God show His resurrection power through you. This kind of victory through humble obedience to Christ may seem weak to the world, but these weapons are truly mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

"Apart from a mighty awakening and revival in the church, we are fighting a losing battle because we are resisting on carnal levels."  Alan Redpath

"Lord, help me to trust in you and your power, and not lean on my own understanding."
